Joe Hockey is doing an exemplary job in the United States and his will be big shoes to fill.

Australia and the United States are natural friends and allies. We share common strategic perspectives, a strong economic and trade relationship, as well as cultural and historical ties.
We are two of the world’s oldest continuing democracies and have fought alongside one another in all the major conflicts of the last century. Above all we stand for humane and decent universal values.
I will continue to serve in the parliament until arrangements are appropriately finalised. It is a privilege to serve the Australian people in this way.
I have also been fortunate to be a member of the executive serving in the portfolios of Assistant Treasurer, Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science.
