Disaster assistance announced for Eden-Monaro farmers

Senator for NSW, Senator the Hon Arthur Sinodinos AO today welcomed the announcement of further disaster assistance for local farmers following  severe storms and flooding in June 2016.

Senator Sinodinos said the funding would assist eligible shellfish producers in the Eden Monaro region, particularly around Bega and Eurobodalla.

“The recent storms had a devastating effect on local producers and it is critical that the Commonwealth helps these farmers get back on their feet,” Senator Sinodinos said.

Grants of up to $10,000 have been made available under the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

“This funding will assist farmers to remove disaster-related debris, salvage crops and stock, and repair damaged equipment to help them get their businesses back on track,” Senator Sinodinos said.

The recovery grants are in addition to concessional loans and freight subsidy assistance already made available to primary producers in response to the disaster.

The Australian Government stands ready to assist affected local farmers to get back on their feet, and I am pleased to see this funding announced today.

To apply for a recovery grant, primary producers in the eligible local government councils can contact the NSW Rural Assistance Authority on 1800 678 593 or visit raa.nsw.gov.au.
